WHY DID THE HOLY SPIRIT MOVE UPON THE FACE OF THE WATERS ?

GOD’S SPIRIT MOVED UPON THE FACE OF WATERS (Gen. 1:2)

“And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters” (Gen. 1:2)

The Earth “was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep (Gen. 1:2). Lucifer and a third of the angels ruled over the Earth, which was referred to as the Pre-Adamic world or age. Then Lucifer rebelled and became the deceiver, Satan, meaning “Adversary”. He thought he had thwarted God’s plan by the defilement of the Earth, which necessitated judgment, but God never gave up nor will He ever give up! He doesn’t quit. The Holy Spirit went straight into the midst of darkness and unto the formless matter. Nothing is ever too hard for God! He brought light and would soon bring order to the formless and empty waste.

...And the Earth was without form, and void; and darkness was upon the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God moved upon the face of the waters (Gen. 1:2).

The word “moved” can be defined as “hovered”; “brooded”; and “to remain in one place in the air”. The word “brooded” means “to hover softly”; and “to go in a specified direction or manner”. The Holy Spirit moved to accomplish a certain purpose. He was on a set course. The image we have here is of “a bird that sits on eggs to hatch them”. Furthermore, the root word of “brooded” means “to breed”. The Holy Spirit was bringing a warming affect to the Earth so God’s plan and purpose would be hatched or birthed! What was God’s purpose? MAN. The Holy Spirit was preparing the Earth for man.

It was in Gen. 1:2 that the Holy Spirit was first introduced to us in His intercessory role. He did not hesitate to prepare the way for man. He is the Intercessor for man, the Helper of man and the One Who will never leave man. He will always prepare the way for the children of God. If your life is a mess, dark and gloomy, then allow the Holy Spirit to have His way! Pray in the Spirit, allowing Him to fulfill His intercessory role in your life! When you allow Him to intercede through you, then all things will work together for your good! He will pray through you to an answer!

...Likewise the Spirit also helps our infirmities (weaknesses): for we know not what we should pray for as we should: but the Spirit Himself makes intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. And He that searches the hearts knows what is the mind of the Spirit, because he makes intercession for the saints according to the will of God. And we know that all things work together for good to them that love God, to them who are the called according to His purpose (Rom. 8:26-28).
